“Between 17 and 18 August 2010, the contractor constructing houses for Serb returnees in the village of Zallç, reported police station in Istog that some of the houses and construction material have been damaged. Police immediately went to the spot as soon as they received the information, police is investigating the case” stated commander of the Police station in Istog, Mr. Avni Gjevukaj.
The incident in Zallç has been strongly condemned by municipal authorities;
“We harshly condemn the act happened in Zallç, therefore we request from competent bodies in charge of peace and order to shed light over the case and perpetrators face law sanctions. We are deeply convinced that majority population has nothing against Serb return to their own properties as this is a fundamental right of every citizen of the Republic of Kosovo. These are evildoing acts, regardless from the fact who might be behind all this, hence we firmly condemn the incident, as this sort of acts intend to disturb return process of communities, especially the Serb community; Istog municipality always served a model of return for other municipalities” said Deputy Mayor, Mr. Agim Ademaj.
According to police information, on the same day in the afternoon, a fire broke out burning a wasteland which is approximately some 300 m far from the location where the houses are being constructed. The Fire brigade immediately intervened and the fire was extinguished.
